This November, library patrons brought cans, bags, and boxes of non-perishable food items to their hometown Pioneer Library, which were donated to various organizations, such as Shawnee Rescue Mission, Salvation Army of Norman, Moore Public Schools Food Pantry, and many others. For every item donated, Pioneer Library System removed $1 off of the existing library fines on patrons' accounts.

This year, the entire Pioneer Library System gathered approximately 3.4 tons of un-opened food items from charitable patrons.

That weighs as much as an African Forest Elephant! If you would like more information about elephants, please feel free to explore our Encyclopedia Britannica database here.

Thank you for all of your donations!

Happy Thanksgiving! All hometown libraries will close at 6 pm on November 26 and will be closed all day November 27 and 28. Enjoy celebrating with your family over the holiday! We will reopen on November 29 for regular hours. Here are some book titles you might be interested in reading that have a Thanksgiving theme.

Thanksgiving by Michael Dibdin

Thanksgiving is a moving portrait of the profound effects of love when all that seems to remain is loss and grief. Unhinged by his wife's unexpected death, Anthony, a middle-aged Seattle journalist, becomes obsessed with her past. He drives through the Nevada desert to locate her ex-husband looking for some unnamable solace. But, what awaits him is a bizarre and violent encounter with the past that entangles Anthony with his half-estranged stepchildren, the police, and his own disquieted mind and that only makes Lucy's ghostly presence seem all the more real. The crisp dialogue, shadowy atmosphere, and sharp pacing of a master crime writer work to great effect in this arresting story that toys with the precipice of insanity and the extremes of passion and loss. This is a splendid shadow play on the enduring human mystery of love.
