Readers and eaters can enjoy both at a Big Read Brown Bag Lunch featuring this year’s The Big Read selection The Maltese Falcon on Thursday, March 25, 12:30 p.m. at the Newcastle Public Library.
Participants will bring their own lunch and chat about The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett. Dessert and drinks will be provided by the Friends of the Library.
Register: in person, call 387-5076, or sign up through the Newcastle Events Calendar.
The Maltese Falcon, first published in 1930, set up many of the prerequisites for a new crime genre of literature with its main character, detective Sam Spade. Author Hammett pioneered the idea of hardboiled detective fiction. The Big Read is a National Endowment for the Arts initiative to bring reading back as a cultural activity to Americans. |
