A special book discussion about the Big Read novel, ‘Bless Me, Ultima,’ Tuesday, April 22 at 11:30 a.m. The library will provide a light snack lunch. Copies of the novel are available at the library.
Bless Me, Ultima is a coming of age novel about a young boy’s loss of innocence and approach to maturity. But it also deals with tradition and education, faith and doubt, and good and evil. And if Antonio, the protagonist, does not find an absolute truth in his search, he still comes to believe with his father that “sometimes it takes a lifetime to acquire understanding, because in the end understanding simply means having sympathy for people.”
This book discussion is an official Big Read event and qualifies one to enter the “Bless Me, Ultima Ultimate, Altima Give Away” drawing for a 2005 Nissan Altima offered by Bob Moore Nissan of Norman as an incentive to participate in The Big Read. No purchase is necessary to enter the May 5 drawing. To enter the drawing one must attend an official Big Read event or visit the car dealership. Entrants must be 18 or older and not an employee of Bob Moore Auto Group or Pioneer Library System. Entries are also available at the dealership, I-35 and Tecumseh Road in Norman.
The Big Read is made possible through a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts in cooperation with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest. Visit the library system’s Big Read website at www.bigreadok.com for a complete listing of Big Read events.
