Comic Book Lovers pay attention. If you check out a teen book from your library May 2, you get a free comic book, too.
This is a special celebration of Free Comic Book Day. Pioneer Library System has 9 hometown libraries in Cleveland, McClain, and Pottawatomie counties.
Comic books began in the 1930s as a unique American art form that has grown to spread around the globe. Recently, comics and graphic novels have attained a new level of literary acceptance and acclaim. Recognition from such respectable outlets as the National Book Foundation, TIME Magazine, Booklist, Library Journal, NPR and Publishers Weekly has proven the merit of comics and graphic novels as a literary form. In fact, in 2007 at the American Library Association’s Midwinter Conference in Seattle, the Young Adult Library Services Association announced the beginning of its annual Great Graphic Novels for Teens list.
