Dino O'Dell brings his music mix to Newcastle for concert

Kevin Dolan understands how Bruce Wayne or Clark Kent feel. Not that he’s a superhero necessarily, but that part about having an alter-ego is part of his daily life.

And Dolan will slip into his second persona – Dino O’Dell – for a tour of hometown libraries this summer. He’ll be at the Newcastle Public Library at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 11.

The Kansas City-based musician is all about educating through fun. In his words, “proudly tricking children into learning since 2003.”

“That’s my goal, just like the library, to create an educated populous that can read, and as soon as you can start reading you can start thinking at a different level that can make you think and help your community have an informed populous,” he said. “That starts really young, starts with teaching them how to think.”

Dolan’s interest in music blossomed in high school, inspired by the music his parents listened to and began playing guitar and studying vocal music. After years as a music and drama teacher, he moved fulltime into performing, both locally and around the country, including an opportunity to be part of the annual White House Easter Egg Roll in 2005.

As Dino, he will try out a few new tunes this summer, as well as some old favorites, including one about the planets that has been a favorite everywhere he’s performed it. It will be quite a range of songs, all taking on something of a science theme.

Major sponsors for this year’s Summer Reading Program are the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, Oklahoma Arts Council, Hitachi, Kirkpatrick Family Fund, The Anne and Henry Zarrow Foundation, Sonic, Oklahoma 529 College Savings Plan, The Oklahoman, the Pioneer Library System and the Pioneer Library System Foundation.
