Norman Public Library
The Pioneer Library System and the University of Oklahoma Confucian Institute are partnering on a series of family-oriented story times this fall titled “Chinese Storytelling with Cartoons.”
Projected Chinese style comic illustration to accompany each storytelling journey will explore the most popular Chinese idioms, fairy tales, folklores and anecdotes of famous Chinese historical figures.
The first story times are slated for the Norman Public Library, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 and Saturday, Sept. 22. The programs will take place in the Campbell Gallery Room of the library, 225 N. Webster Ave.
Storyteller James Yang will use Chinese-style comics to illustrate the traditional Chinese fairy tales and folk tales they will present during the story times.
In addition to September’s Norman programs, the story times will be offered throughout the fall in each of the system’s Cleveland County branches – Moore, Southwest Oklahoma City and Noble.
The University of Oklahoma Confucius Institute endeavors to build strong relations between the people of the South Central U.S. and the people of China, enhancing understanding and mutual respect. It is a partnership established in 2006 between Beijing Normal University and OU.
