Norman Public Library
The Norman Public Library promotes literacy in many ways, and takes a new turn on it with a summer program for some of the youngest members of the community.
“Grow a Learner With Art,” at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, strives to focus on early literacy skills through art play and learning. It is for children age 5 and under.
Teaching artist Kiona Millirons will be the program presenter. The focus of the program will be “Scribbling is Drawing,” with a 30-minute session devoted to art activities, followed by a story time related to art and color.
This will be a two-part series, with the second program to focus on “Sculpture and Painting for Tiny Hands.” It is scheduled to return to the library on July 17.
All supplies are provided, but space is limited, so registration in advance is required.
Major sponsors for this year’s Summer Reading Program are the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, Oklahoma Arts Council, Hitachi, Kirkpatrick Family Fund, The Anne and Henry Zarrow Foundation, Sonic, Oklahoma 529 College Savings Plan, The Oklahoman, the Pioneer Library System and the Pioneer Library System Foundation.
