Norman Public Library’s 10th annual Crowns Tea moves to Embassy Suites Feb. 23

pink hatThe Norman Public Library’s annual Crowns Tea is a decade old this year, and the library has announced some changes to the popular event for 2014.

The Crowns Tea moves this year from the library to the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center, 2501 Conference Drive. The Tea will take place in one seating, from 1:30 to 3 p.m., on Sunday, Feb. 23.

The Crowns Tea is a commemoration of Black History Month and is based on the photo essay “Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats,” which celebrates the tradition of the church hat. The book is written by Craig Marberry with the photography of Michael Cunningham and was published in 2000.

Guests are invited to dress in their Sunday best and fill the room with colorful headwear.

The event is offered free of charge but a ticket is required for entrance. Ticket distribution will take place at the downtown Norman Public Library, 225 N. Webster Ave., or at Norman Public Library West, 300 Norman Center Court.

For more information, visit either Norman location or call 701-2600.
