Walking tour looks at historic downtown Purcell

Get a first-hand look at the history of the City of Purcell with a guided walking tour of the historic parts of downtown, as part of the series of activities planned around Purcell Public Library’s “Key Ingredients: America by Food” exhibit.

The tour takes place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, with those interested meeting at the Purcell Public Library, 919 N. Ninth St., to take transportation.

 

Members of the McClain County Historical Society will lead the walking tours, which will show off the historic downtown area of the city.

Space on the buses is limited so registration will be required, either at the library, by calling 527-5546 or online here .

And before or after taking the tour, guests can check out the exhibit itself, part of the Smithsonian Institution’s outreach programming. The exhibit will be displayed at the library through March 3, one of six stops in will make in Oklahoma during its year-long tour of the state.

 “Key Ingredients: America by Food” is a Smithsonian Institution outreach program that is visiting six sites in Oklahoma this fall and in 2012. The exhibit is part of Museum on Main Street, a partnership of the Smithsonian and state humanities councils, including the Oklahoma Humanities Council, which helped bring the exhibit to Oklahoma.
