THE RUNNING DREAM by Wendelin Van Draanen
Jessica is a sixteen-year-old junior up-and-coming track star. When a bus accident after a track meet leaves her an amputee, she faces the most difficult situation of her life. It would be difficult for an adult, but for a girl who loves to run, it is earth shattering. The reader makes the journey with Jessica and her family as she tries to adjust to her new normal and go on with her life. This is such a timely subject in light of those injured in the Boston bombing whose experiences are much the same. This novel is an Intermediate selection of the 2014 Sequoyah List, but it is a good read for older teens and adults.
