Shawnee Public Library, IFYR set for another summer partnership in rodeo’s 20th year

RodeoThe Shawnee Public Library again will partner with the International Finals Youth Rodeo this July, as the rodeo marks its 20th year in Shawnee.

The Youth Directors for this year’s rodeo will make a visit to the library at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, for some “Readin’, Ridin’, and Ropin’ at the Library.”

Ages 9 and up are invited as the youth directors describe and demonstrate some of the rodeo events they participate in for ages. In addition, a chuckwagon snack will be provided for participants in the program.

The next day, rodeo participants invite library cardholders to their habitat. The first 100 teens or tweens who show their library card will receive free admission to Thursday’s events at the rodeo, which takes place at the Heart of Oklahoma Expo, 1700 W. Independence St.

The International Finals Youth Rodeo runs July 8 through 13 at the expo, with the finals performance set for 7:30 p.m. The event brings in more than 1,000 talented youth from around the country to participate in 10 events.
