The Shawnee Public Library invites the community to an unveiling of a clay tile mural produced by teens during this year’s Summer Reading Program, at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, at the library, 101 N. Philadelphia Ave.
The mural is made up of 30 clay tiles carved by teen SRP participants this summer. The mural was designed by Julie Blackstone, assistant professor of art at Oklahoma Baptist University.
The mural will be displayed permanently in the library lobby as a piece of public art.
This has become something of a tradition for teens at the library in recent years to take part in an art project. Past projects have included a ceramic mural dedicated last summer in the lobby and paintings that adorn the walls in the library’s Community Rooms.
The mural project was funded by a grant from the Junior Service League of Shawnee.
The public is invited to the unveiling and reception, and registration is not required to attend.
