Shawnee offers busy schedule of free computer classes in February

The Shawnee Public Library is bringing the community up to speed on the world of computers, with a variety of free computer classes offered throughout February.
Classes take place in the Computer Training Center of the library, 101 N. Philadelphia Ave. Registration is required separately for each class, and may be completed at the library, by calling 275-6353 or online here .
Upcoming class dates, topics and experience suggested to take them include:
Mail Merge, 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4 – Learn how to create mailing labels using Mail Merge, part of the Microsoft Office program. Participants will learn tips and tricks to more easily handle large or small mailings.
Introduction to Computers, 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5 – For new computer users, a look at basic terms and functions, including a lesson using a mouse.
Introduction to the Internet, 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6 – Basic tips on searching the World Wide Web. For new computer users.
Getting Started with Email, 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7 – Create a free email account using one of several free services available online.
Explore Pinterest, 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13 – Learn more about the new social media website, including a chance to sign up for an account. Intermediate computer skills are required.
Brain Games for Seniors, 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19 – Seniors can boost their brain cells with a variety of free brain-boosting games online.
Facebook 101, 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20 – Take a basic tour of the popular social media website. The class is geared at first-time social media users.
Improve Your Internet Searching Skills, 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21 – Learn advanced search techniques for use online. Some computer skills are required.
Basic Word Processing, 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27 – Learn the basics of Microsoft Word 2010. Basic computer skills are required.
Library 101, 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 – Get a look at the library’s catalog, databases and download services.
