The Shawnee Public Library has students in mind with its Homework Help Now! program, set for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at the library, 101 N. Philadelphia Ave.

School-age students and/or their parents can learn about the library database BrainFuse, which features a live tutoring service on a variety of subjects and all grade levels.

Experience Baby Story Time in Shawnee

Baby Story Time is back at the Shawnee Public Library, with editions of the popular program for some of the library’s youngest patrons set for 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, Sept. 23 and Oct. 28, at the library, 101 N. Philadelphia Ave.

The programs feature stories, music, bounces, rhymes and interaction activities for babies and their caregivers. Activities are geared to children between 6 and 30 months of age.

Shawnee takes part in Banned Book Week with movie showing

The Shawnee Public Library is commemorating the annual Banned Books Week with a program and movie presentation at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at the library, 101 N. Philadelphia Ave.

The featured book in the program is “Divergent” by Veronica Roth, one of the 10 most challenged books of 2014, according to the American Library Association.

Come to Fairy Tale Friday in Shawnee

It’s Fairy Tale Friday at the Shawnee Public Library, as story time with a special twist starts at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19.

Librarians will share a favorite well-known fairy tale, and once they’ve shared the real version of the story, they then will present a “fractured” version of the same story. It’s the same, but not quite the same.

Shawnee offers mornings of creative kids movement

“Wiggle Your Nose and Touch Your Toes” with several upcoming creative movement programs for children at the Shawnee Public Library, 101 N. Philadelphia Ave.

Children ages 2-5 and their caregivers are invited to the library’s Community Room at 10 a.m. on the third Thursday of the next three months, on Sept. 18, Oct. 16, and Nov. 20.

Shawnee hosts Preschool Story Times on Tuesdays

The Shawnee Public Library welcomes its youngest readers to experience stories and more at its Preschool Story Times.

Story Times take place twice on Tuesdays, at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., from September through November on Tuesdays the library is open.

Shawnee to host four-part “Let’s Talk About It Oklahoma” discussion series

The Shawnee Public Library, with the aid of the Oklahoma Humanities Council, is going back to the days of the Founding Fathers for the “Let’s Talk About It Oklahoma” book discussion series on the topic “American Icons.”

This will be a four-part series, with discussions taking place at 7 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 4 and 18 and Oct. 2 and 16, at the library, 101 N. Philadelphia Ave.

Discussions will be led by local scholars, including Dr. Bill Hagen, retired Professor of English at Oklahoma Baptist University; James Farthing, Dr. Trisha Yarbrough, and Dr. Carol Sue Humphrey, Professor of History at OBU.
