THE MEMORY GARDEN by M. Rickert
It has been forty years since three once close friends have seen each other.  Their separation is the result of a secret tragedy resulting in the death of their fourth best friend.  The fact that the women are witches is really beside the point.  I trudged through the first half of this novel, but when the characters finally came together to rectify and confront their past, the book suddenly became a story of warmth and heart.  I’m not sure if I can recommend it, but at the end I did feel satisfied.

The colored glass mosaic piece—A Magic Carpet—will hang permanently in the library’s lobby and will be unveiled on September 2, 2014 at 5pm.



 


 

Shawnee to host ESL class series

StudentsThe Pottawatomie County Literacy Services Department is beginning a series of English as a Second Language classes for new English speakers.

The classes will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Shawnee Public Library, 101 N. Philadelphia Ave.
