Author James Patterson is awarding gift certificates worth up to $5,000 for college-bound high school seniors to help defray the cost of books.

The Vinyl Princess by Yvonne Prinz
Genre: Teen Fiction
Reviewer: SBW

book jacket for The Vinyl Princess I really enjoyed this book. Allie is obsessed with vinyl records and works at a used record store on famous Telegraph Ave. in Berkeley, C.A. It is the perfect place for her to get all her great records and share her music zine.

The author throws in several music & musician facts that make the book interesting. The little bit of mystery and romance was good too. I was nervous to find out who is robbing the stores on Telephone Ave. And, Allie's secret admirer is just so sweet.

A good quick weekend read.

Books with Beat

Join us in celebrating international Teen Read Week™, October 17-23. This year's theme is "Books with Beat." This includes poetry, audiobooks, books about music, and any other literature with a beat.

Pioneer Library System is extending the celebration to include the whole month of October. Check your home town library for special teen events this month.

Teen Read Week is also when the "Teen’s Top Ten Read List" is announced based on votes from teens across the nation. Check out who won on Oct. 18.

On Oct. 14 @ 6 p.m. learn how to apply & create monster make-up for the scariest, most disgusting, or beautiful costumes this Halloween season. Registration is required. Come by the Moore Library Information Desk or call 793-4349.

Let your voice be heard! Come for a lively discussion & craft for “Schooled” by Gordon Korman Oct. 13 @ 4 p.m. Refreshments provided by the friends of the Newcastle Library.
