National Poetry Month
The Academy of American Poets wants you to celebrate Poetry Month this April. The purpose of the month is to "increase visibility & availability of poetry in pop culture while acknowledging & celebrating poetry's ability to sustain itself."
Your hometown library has a large collection of poetry for children, teens & adults available to checkout or download. Both classic and modern. It also may have special events scheduled this month.
The Academy of American Poets suggests several ways for you to celebrate the power of poetry this month. Here are just a few:
► April 14 - Poem in your pocket day
► Write a poem on pavement with sidewalk chalk
► Put some poetry in an unexpected place
► Ask the post office for poet stamps
Visit Poets.org or your hometown library for more ideas on celebrating National Poetry Month.
