• Start To Finish Gold Computer Book Kits
If you haven't yet checked out one of the 20 titles on CD ROM come by the literacy cabinets and try one! These great kits contain a matching book, audio book, and a copy of the book on computer disc. They provide a great array of multisensory learning options.
• Oxford Picture Dictionary Workbooks
These workbooks come in different levels and correlate perfectly with the Oxford Picture Dictionary Monolingual edition. The workbooks come with a CD so students can review pronunciation from each lesson.

• Pronounce It Perfectly in English
This CD and book program emphasizes speaking and standard intonation patterns in American-style English. Students learn to speak with an authentic American accent.
• Writing It Down and Writing To Others
These basic workbooks guide learners through the basics of everyday writing and provide practice in writing for real-life situations. They feature units on application forms, making lists, writing business letters, using the computer in daily life and much more.

Cool Summer Programs at your Library
Be sure to pick up a copy of the Summer WORD magazine for a preview of summer activities for all ages. "Dream Big: READ!" is the summer reading theme for children. Young Adults are invited to "Own the Night" while adults can enjoy the theme "Between the Covers." Special programs include 'Dance the Night Away' with Jose Bracamontes Ramirez, 'Make a Mask-Strike a Pose' and 'Creating a Family Cookbook'.

We will be reading newspapers and books and practicing conversation skills in English during this fun 4 week class. We will also have opportunities to share news about our culture and customs and learn about other cultures.

Dyslexia Workshop
Date: June 5, 2012
Time: 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Location: Shawnee Public Library, Rooms A/B
Presented by Patricia Cook, a Reading Specialist and certified Dyslexia Testing Specialist, this workshop will address the myths about dyslexia, identify the classic warning signs and give suggestions for classroom accommodations and techniques to improve reading, writing and spelling. It is free and open to the public.
Tip Of The Month
The Four Language Skill Areas: Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing
Design or choose activities that involve each of the four language skills. For example, if you are teaching how to use the verb "be" explain and practice the correct usage orally. Then ask your student to listen to several sentences with "be" and identify the correct and incorrect sentences. Follow this up with a reading or writing exercise (such as fill in the blanks) using sentences or a longer text containing several forms of "be."
