This Wednesday, April 17, and Thursday, April 18, offer a special treat to library patrons and those interested in The Big Read this year! Two free public screenings of the movie This Boy's Life based upon one of Tobias Wolff's novels have been set up to enjoy.
The first screening takes place on April 17 at Cinema Center 8 in Shawnee at 6:30 p.m. The second screeing takes place on April 18 at the Warren Theatre in Moore at 6:30 p.m.
There are still a few spots available, so register online for a seat before it's too late!

Library staff can help with registration. Registrations will be checked at door beginning at 6 p.m. and admitted before general admission.

The Pioneer Library System has announced the winners of The Big Read: Old School Short Story Writing Contest.
Contest winners are Laura Smith, a 17-year-old junior at Westmoore High School, in the high school division; and Matt Baker, an Oklahoma Baptist University senior double-majoring in English and Anthropology, in the college division.
The winners were chosen from a group of finalists by Tobias Wolff, author of “Old School,” the featured novel in The Big Read activities in the library system this spring. They were announced at The Big Read Study Hall scholar panel discussion at Moore’s Old School Business Center on April 10.

The Pioneer Library System is going “Old School” in 2013 for its annual celebration of literature, The Big Read.
And a natural partnership for the library involves Moore’s Old School Business Center, 201 N. Broadway St., which will host a “Study Hall” panel discussion of the Tobias Wolff novel Old School at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 10. The event takes place in the Old School Auditorium inside the Old School Business Center, which in its early days served as the first school building in Moore.

The Pioneer Library System has announced the finalists for The Big Read: Old School Short Story Writing Contest.
High school division finalists:
- Carrie O’Quinn, an 18-year-old senior from Moore
- Madolyn Phillips, a 16-year-old junior from Norman
- Laura Smith, a 17-year-old junior from Moore
College division finalists:
- Matt Baker, Rowley, Mass., an Oklahoma Baptist University senior double-majoring in English and Anthropology
- Andrea Johnson, Shawnee, an Oklahoma Baptist University senior majoring in Interdisciplinary Digital Cinema Production
- Andrew Wright, Chiayi, Taiwan, an Oklahoma Baptist University freshman majoring in Creative Writing
The winners will be selected by Tobias Wolff, author of Old School, and announced at The Big Read “Study Hall” panel discussion at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at the Old School Auditorium inside the Old School Business Center in Moore. Each winner and a guest will be invited to a private reception Wolff will attend during his visit to Oklahoma in late April.
