rows of books on tablesThe annual Friends of the Shawnee Public Library Book Sale is set for Wednesday, Oct. 7 through Saturday, Oct. 10. The sale is open Thursday at 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday respectively.

The Friends have a preview sale scheduled for their members only Wednesday, Oct. 4, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Anyone may become a Friends member at the preview sale. The sales will be in the community room at the Shawnee library, 101 N. Philadelphia.

The money raised from the sale of books is used throughout the year to subsidize special activities that otherwise might not be possible within the library’s regular budget, Julia Harmon library manager, said. Projects funded by the Friends in the past include programs for adults, teens and children; an expansion of the library’s videos and DVDs; and continuing education and professional association memberships for staff.

Sale prices for this book sale range from several dollars for sets of books to $1 for hardbacks, videos and books on tape; and 50 cents for paperbacks and 25 cents for children’s books.

Anyone wishing to join the Friends of the Shawnee Public Library may attend the Pre-view Sale October 7 and pay the membership fee at that time. Friends’ annual membership fees are available at these levels: Senior $5, Student $5, Individual or Family $10, Reader $25, Book Lover $50 and Patron $100.
