Just so you know logoPioneer Library System Director Anne Masters presented Tecumseh Public Library volunteers Naomi and Valerie Deeds with a Presidential Service Citation. Naomi Deeds received the bronze service award pin in the age 15-adult category with a record of over 170 volunteer hours at the library in 2008. Valerie Deeds received the gold service award pin for completing more than 150 hours of volunteer service in the age 14 and under category.

As part of their service, the girls have stamped and shelved thousands of books, cleaned, dusted, discarded, organized, straightened shelves, and worked with children at special events. “We have an amazing group of volunteers in Tecumseh,” said Beth Lyle, who coordinates teen services at the Tecumseh Library. “Volunteer services greatly expand what the library can offer by allowing the library staff more time to spend waiting on customers and planning special programs. We want them to know how grateful we are for their cheerful service.”

This award was created by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation in response to a challenge in President George W. Bush’s 2002 State of the Union address for every American to give 4,000 hours of volunteer service over the course of their lifetime. The citation is one way to thank volunteers whose example encourages others to engage in volunteer service.
